Sophia-McDonald Residences

Situated at the intersection of Sophia St E, McDonald St and Clapperton St., the project encapsulates the northern edge of the urban growth center. It is surrounded by local attractions including Lion’s Park, The Waterfront, and Barrie City Centre. This tower is a mixed-use development with commercial retail at ground level and 20 floors of residential units above. Providing views of the waterfront, the form of the structure minimizes the appearance of a slab tower by breaking up the tower massing to appear as two distinct towers. Adjacent to the lot, is also a privately owned public plaza, providing walking distance amenities to the neighbourhood. The tower presents itself with beautiful stone cladding on its exterior, curtain wall glazing on the ground floor, and window wall glazing on the remaining floors above. Pre-finished aluminum cladding accents are added to bring the whole composition together.

Barrie City Centre is a Residential neighbourhood mixed with single family dwellings, apartment buildings, and a funeral home on the block. Two of the three single family dwellings were acquired by the client and made part of the project site. The building massing reinforces the block and adds to the housing needs and neighbourhood density in the area.
