Sue Jean Chung – RAIC College of Fellows, 2025

Founding Principal, Studio JCI

We are proud to celebrate Sue Jean Chung on her induction into the RAIC College of Fellows, Class of 2025, recognizing her outstanding contributions to Canadian architecture.

As the founding principal of Studio JCI, Sue Jean leads a multidisciplinary practice known for its thoughtful and impactful residential and mixed-use developments across Southern Ontario. A graduate of the University of Toronto’s Bachelor of Architecture program, she brings over two decades of experience and has played a key role in the design and delivery of over 7,000 housing units across the region.

Her work reflects a rare balance of urban-scale thinking and meticulous attention to detail. With a deep understanding of development frameworks, Sue Jean has guided numerous complex projects from feasibility to completion—many of which have been honoured with Toronto Urban Design Awards of Excellence. Her leadership ensures that Studio JCI’s design vision is carried through each stage with clarity, rigour, and care.

Beyond her professional achievements, Sue Jean is a passionate advocate for mentorship, equity, and diversity in the architectural profession. She is actively involved with BEAT (Building Equality in Architecture Toronto) and was named to the Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI) Championship Team in 2022, recognizing her contributions to real estate and urban development.

She also established JCI Learn, an internal lecture and mentorship series focused on empowering emerging architects and fostering a culture of leadership, dialogue, and continuous learning.

Her RAIC Fellowship is a testament not only to her design excellence but also to her role in shaping a more inclusive and resilient profession.
