Hotel McGibbon

The redevelopment of the Hotel McGibbon breathes new life into a disused historical site, while respecting its active and vibrant past. This project holds the corner on the main thoroughfare of Main Street, Georgetown, restoring its role as a retail storefront. Tribute to the building’s history is paid through preserving portions of the original 1890’s bricks. Additional bays of the brick façade are added to mimic the rhythm and datum of what was pre-existing. The original hotel becomes a podium for a cascading series of residential units, intensifying the historic downtown without compromising the character of the street.  The cascading units give way to expansive terraces, open to the elements. Additionally, balconies are nestled into the crenellations of the building’s form, to create comfortable and more protected outdoor spaces.
